Weekly Report 24 May 13

Post by Brad » Fri May 24, 2013 10:26 am

The sea mullet are entering the Pumistone Passage for another year which means that the big sea bream will not be far behind them and eventually the luderick will be on again. Thats great news for anglers who love their bream fishing. Chopper tailor are within the Pumistone system with plenty being taken on small poppers and slow trolled, small Damiki soft plastics. Whiting are in the lower reaches of the passage south of Bell's Creek and within the main sand bars just opposite Gemini Towers. Mulloway are being taken in the channel system and around the jetties and pontoons with a few being caught around the middle of the day in secluded places.

Offshore has been unbelievable with strong catches of quality snapper and pearl perch. Wide Caloundra has cobia and some monster long tail tuna which are hanging around for the last of the bait schools. Snapper and small parrot being caught in close around Bray's Rock and around the spoil grounds. The northern markers and coffee rock areas at the tip of Bribie are also good spots to try for mulloway and plenty of whiting are in the same area. Up around Sunshine Reef there have been some quality snapper taken recently along with pearl perch on the known wrecks. Big kingfish hanging around the deeper reef areas and some thumper amberjack.

The closer in reef systems will be the target offshore this week because of the strong southerly blow that is upon us. Try areas like Currimundi, Sunshine, North Reef, Inner & Outers for calmer areas and enjoyable fishing. There are also some monster crabs being taken at the moment and Peter sent me in some pics of his prizes. Have Fun!
