Weekly Report 19 Jul 13

Grass sweet lip and red throat emperor are around the local reefs at the moment in good numbers. Trying to find bait fish is a little difficult but plenty of berley will make the difference to a fishing trip. There are still quality snapper around the traps but the better fish are in deeper water around the 90 metre mark at Wide Caloundra and the top of the hards. Deep water cod are well and truly on the bite with some near monsters being bought up from the 300m mark. Brays Rock has seen a few classics of late in particular good sized mulloway. They seem to be fishing well right down from the channel areas around the middle of Bribie through to the shallow reefs. Cobia are around on the known reefs but getting live bait can be an issue. Sadly live or fresh bait is the only way you will nail the better ones.

The Pumicestone Passage particularly around the Boardwalk in Caloundra has witnessed a big run of mullet and plenty of anglers have enjoyed landing a few for a feed. The luderick are still biting around the pylons of the Boardwalk but when they are on it is difficult to get a spot to have a go at them. Some times you will run into a couple of old cranky men who think they are the only ones aloud to fish there, but remember, smile and enjoy yourself. Don't take their crap! Bream and dart are around the surf break at Happy Valley and the occasion flathead is still being caught. This week is a great time to be angling through to the middle of next week as all the stars will align hopefully. As for the weather......who knows.. Have Fun!
