Weekly Report 13 Aug 13

Post by Brad » Tue Aug 13, 2013 1:39 pm

Some mixed reports over the past week but a number of good fish have been taken so that is good news. Cobia are on the chew and livies and big soft plastics are the only things that they are even looking at right now. Big pearl perch are around the reefs at Wide Caloundra along with quality pan size squire. Hussar are mixed amongst the catches of mowong and sweetlip along with plenty of other species. Pilchards and squid seem to be the most successful on paternoster rigs and floating rigs for the bigger snapper. The deeper waters around the 90m mark plus are holding good size snapper but they are patchy and turn off as quickly as they start to bite. Reports of mackerel and tuna around Sunshine Reef areas are confirmed and who would know what the fish are doing with this unseasonal heat. Is winter finished for this year?

The Pumicestone Passage is slow for the bigger species but still plenty of smaller bream around the 600grm mark. Gemini Pontoon and Military Jetty are spots that are fun to take the kids down too. Simple baits of bread on unweighted hooks will do the trick. Maroochy River is also full of smaller bream with a couple of nice mulloway reported being taken around the mouth area. The cod hole has been hotly contested and during the tidal changes it can be difficult to get a good spot. The canals are just full of bream and small moses perch and mullet so they are worth a paddle around this week.

The beaches should be worth a shot this week and early into next for dart, bream and the chance of a tailor. The tailor run has been very limited this season and sadly has decline over a number of years according to those in the know and I believe them to be correct. Lets hope common sense can turn this around. Have Fun!
I am looking for some pictures for upcoming issues of the Fishing Monthly magazine. In particular snapper along with mixed reef species. I would also love some estuary species pictures if you have them lying around. 1mb in size minimum is required for quality purposes but the larger the pic the better. Send them through to the following: fishingcaloundra@yahoo.com.au
