Weekly Report 6 Sep 13

Post by Brad » Fri Sep 06, 2013 9:26 am

Reports of fantastic fishing around Wide Caloundra at the moment with good catches of pearl perch and snapper in the deeper waters. Mixed reefies include hussar, sweetlip and red throat emperor for those that like to fish the bottom. Some tuna schools have provided some entertainment out wider around the southern end of the Barwon Banks. This area also has some cracker snapper and reefies are also on the chew. Iodine bream can become a problem once the berley goes out and once they start taking a bait then it is time to pack up. The inner reefs like Murphy's, the Gneerings and Caloundra all have squire and red throat around them along with pearl perch and other species. The week ahead is showing northerly winds so things may be a little quiet so head towards the deeper water for the best action. Plenty of trevally on the northern wrecks at the moment.

The estauaries have been quiet by all counts with small catches of bream and a few trevally being taken around the Pelican Waters area. A few flathead are starting to be taken on live baits within the channel areas leading around to the southern end of the passage. Whiting are still in better numbers around the Coochin Creek area and the weed beds south of Bells creek. The back end of the canals is a good area to look for bait schools being smashed. Generally the attackers will be trevally or queenfish so it is worth a popper or shallow diving hard bodied lure. The beaches have smaller bream and dart with the odd chopper tailor still being taken. Have Fun!
