Weekly Report 4 Apr 14

The mackerel and tuna were running absolutely hot last weekend and maybe we will be lucky enough to enjoy it this weekend as well. The worry will be what happens after the southerly change comes through on Sunday as to whether they stick around or not. Lets hope so! The pelagics came on in big numbers and were taking nearly anything that was thrown at them on Sunday just past. Live baits, trolling lures or flicking surface lures amongst the bait balls all had their rewards for anglers. The tuna were around the 5kg mark an mostly long tails and they were on a mission out there feeding up. From Caloundra to Noosa there were quality spaniards taken and a mixture of reefies including cod, pearl perch and tuskfish.

The estuaries are quiet by comparison but still plenty of bream in around the canals and back waters in places like Pelican Waters and Currimundi Lake. A couple of good sized flathead around the 80cm mark were taken around the channel areas in the Pumicestone Passage closer to the Blue Hole. Whiting are around in small schools and can often be seen swimming in schools across the flats opposite Gemini Towers. Work the weed beds down south from Bells Creek for better whiting and yabbies or peeled prawns are the best options.

This Weekend
Offshore action will be hotter than ever so get out around the Gneerings Shoal, the blinker 9km out from Mooloolaba and Caloundra 12 mile areas will all be worth a look including Brays Rock and Currimundi Reef. For those on a mission head further North to Coolum or Noosa because the Mackerel will be on earlier up there I am sure. Lets hope they come on hard and entertain everyone. Have fun!
