Weekly Report 11 Apr 14

Post by Brad » Fri Apr 11, 2014 8:51 am

What a couple of weeks with plenty of pelagics being taken offshore. Tuna are around still along with lots of quality spanish mackerel which are taking a mixture of trolled shallow and deep diving lures and slow trolled live or dead baits. They are still around today Friday, so this weekend will be hopefully a good one to fish. As the weather cools down the mackerel will slowly head north into warmer waters and we will be on to the reef species. Snapper are already in the deeper water reports with fish up to 6kg being taken around Wide Caloundra and the Barwon Banks. Offshore this weekend may be your last chance so get out there.

The estuaries are still a little quiet outside of the bream. There are a few flathead around the traps but the locals are getting them along with quality whiting. The canals around Pelican Waters are still producing bream on plastics and blades and the chopper tailor are mixed in amongst the feeding schools. Mangrove jack are slowly leaving us in numbers as the water cools but it has been a great season but not for big fish. Trevally can be caught around Military Jetty and the Pelican Waters bridge and further around the main canal there are still queenfish and trevally being caught on surface poppers.

The beach's are the spot to be and if you have time over the coming weeks take a trip up to Noosa North Shore and fish along the beach. Its a magic spot to spend a day with the kids and there are always plenty of dart, bream and whiting to catch. Mulloway are in the deeper holes and around Currimundi beach there are shovel nose rays. It looking like a good weekend so have fun!
