Weekly Report 1 May 14

Post by Brad » Thu May 01, 2014 1:17 pm

Some special weather is on the way next week with light southerly winds which should make perfect snapper fishing conditions. The Gneerings Shoal and Murphy's Reef system have many quality reef species including sweetlip, mowong, red throat emperor and tuskfish for those that are happy to fish the nippy evenings. There are still a few tuna schools around but don't expect them to stick around much longer. Snapper have been on the bite out in the deeper waters from Wide Caloundra through to the Barwon Banks and beyond. They can only come on harder and stronger which is exactly what we all want to hear.

The Pumicestone Passage has seen a good run of herring of late and those of us that use cast nets are getting a good amount of fresh bait for the bream and occasional flathead. Whiting are still being caught in the weed beds around the Power Boat Club and beyond the southern border of Bell's Creek. Trevally have gone a little quiet but there will still be a few around in the warmer back waters of the Pelican Waters canals, so hunt around. The beach area adjacent to Happy Valley has dart and whiting in the wash and mulloway are already being taken around the mouth of the passage in the deeper channel.

Fish Moffat, Kings and Dicky Beaches this weekend for whiting and bream. There will be little moon which will favour the bigger predators in the evenings so work the holes with pilchards or fish strips or big blood worms. It will be on and off over the coming weeks as the species go through their season migration but there will always be a feed available for those that seek it.. Have Fun!
