Perfect weather to take the family for a fish

On the beach there have been some good gutters forming, with large bream schooling up and snacking on passing bait fish. Add to the mix, some nice whiting and tailor and the odd jewie and the beach fisherman have been having a fine old time. With Large Jewies feeding more predominately at night it pays to have a plan. Head down to the beach during the day and check out it out for gutters, and fish an incoming tide with the high a couple of hours after dark. Large baits like local squid, garfish and mullet seem to be the preferred bait.

At the opposite end of the day there have been some nice tailor taken at the mouth of the Maroochy River. They are feeding on small bait fish that are brought in on the tide. Rather than bait give the Halco Spinner a go, it is perfect for tailor. Cast as far as you can and retrieve quickly, as they spin and move through the water they leave a trail like a fleeing bait fish which is the main course for a hungry tailor.

Flathead have been on the chew, with the area around Godfreys Road being a hotspot with the locals. Table fish around the 40 to 50cm mark have been happy to take small baits and soft plastics. Pinks and reds with the paddle tails have been the go, with the Squdgies Pro range proving popular with anglers. To check out the great range call into the store and the team will happy to help.

Offshore anglers have again been spoiled with some great weather. Squire and sweetlip have been plentiful with some nice snapper amongst them. The Gneerings is the place to be with anglers that are burleying up seeing some great results. The key to burley is don’t overdo it; too much and you will attract critters you don’t want. The Barwon Banks have also been producing some great pearlies and jobfish.
