The Maroochy River is Fishing Well

The Maroochy region has been a hive of activity over the past week with anglers getting out and about all over the coast. There have been some exceptional catches coming from the river with big flathead and whiting a plenty over the past week. Upriver jacks are starting to come on the bite with hard body lures and soft plastics working well during, and flesh baits and live baits doing the damage during the night time. Flathead and trevally have been in good numbers up around Bli-Bli with slow hopped prawn lures doing the damage. The mouths of Eudlo and Petrie Creeks have been fishing well for bream, whiting and flathead on the start of the run out tides. Up around the mouth, whiting, flathead and bream have been in good numbers after dark with anglers getting success on nippers, worms and also lures.

On the beach, there’s still plenty of whiting, bream and dart around with the change of the tides fishing best. Cured worms, small pillies and soft plastics have been a few of the favorites amongst beach anglers. Jewfish are still cruising through the gutters at night with big mullet strips being the preferred bait.

Offshore, the wind over the past week has been preventing plenty of anglers from making a trip outside, but with a change in conditions and a drop in swell we should start to see the fishing finally getting back to its best. Squire, sweetlip and Maori cod are in good numbers in close with the anglers that are fishing light and berleying getting the best results. Out wide, the banks is fishing well with quality snapper, pearl perch, red throat and tuskies all plaguing the reefs.
