Report 20/11/14

It’s The River to the Rescue as the Wind Blows

The Maroochy River is again the place to be, with wind gusting around 20 knots for the majority of last week it can sure make it difficult for the offshore fisherman to make a run outside. In the river the upper reaches is where you want to be fishing, with quality jack getting caught right up and past Dunethin Rock. When chasing jack picking your tides and time of day can make a huge difference in the way these fish feed. I’ve found that fishing a run out tide paired with the late afternoon or night generally works the best. The mouth of Coolum creek is fishing well for trevally and school jew after dark with live baits claiming their fair share, while upriver try throwing the new River2Sea Wildprawn as they’ve been catching their fair share of fish.
Down the beach, now that the big tides have come to an end and with the new moon approaching this all means one thing, it’s time to target big jew. When preparing to target jew along the beach put the time in and search for a deep gutter with a good inlet and outlet this is half the battle for these fish. Next is bait; presentation is the key, and so is variety, take down a mix of fresh strip baits like mullet, bonito as well as squid and pillies, they might just take one particular bait on the night.
Offshore; reports of spotted and Spanish mackerel are starting to come through, with anglers hooking into a few around the Gneerings. Cobia are still around Murphys Reef.
Well it’s that time of the month when we draw the Davo’s Junior Fish of the Month Competition. The winner this month is Niah-Lilly Stephen who caught this great 39cm whiting on her brand new rod. Niah- Lilly has won a fantastic G-shock Tide Watch for her efforts.
This week we are running on special, spend $100.00 in store and we will give you a free Jarvis Walker tackle box, simply mention that you read it in the forum and take advantage of this great deal.
