Report 27/11/14

Post by subeditor » Thu Nov 27, 2014 1:18 pm

Pelagics starting to turn on!

With the conditions being very average over the past week and now a bit of a flush out we can see all things fishy start to improve!
Offshore an early morning run in-close can pay off with squire and sweetlip holding in around Coolum reef. Reports are that school mackerel have been thick around Arkwright with the odd standout fish mixed in with the schools. Out wider the Gneerings has been fishing well for cobia and also the odd pelagic.
On the beach; there have been some absolute thumper flathead around the gutters with a few being around the maximum size limit, the Northshore beach stretch is a hotspot for them at the moment, with the recent rain falling and flushing baitfish out with the tides. Soft plastics around 3-4” with a heavy weighted jig head slow hopped through the surf is an easy way to target flatty’s along the beach front.
The mouth of Maroochy River has been fishing well for all the bread and butter species as well as quality jew. Whiting have been on the bite throughout the day with the standout fish taking soldier crabs and cured worms. Trevally and jack are thick around the Motorway Bridge with the lowlight periods being best to chase them. The mouths of Eudlo and Petrie Creek have been fishing well for bream and flathead on the run out tide. Mud crabs are on the move with the stretch from Bli-Bli Islands to Coolum creek definitely worth a try.
Why not take advantage of this great special and be ready for the Pelagics season.
