Maroochy River Comes Alive After a Flush Out.
With the dirty water in the Maroochy River system starting to clear after the rain, you’ll find the bread and butter species will be out and on the chew. Where to find them would be up towards the River Mouth, with the cleaner water coming in on the run in tide. As a standard when using bait at the mouth try to leave your leaders fairly long around 700mm-800mm. Soft plastics like the 100mm Squidgy Whipbaits are definitely worth a try with big flathead holding in the area. Whiting have been coming onto the bite in the late afternoon around Chambers Island flats with cured worms and peeled prawns doing the damage. For land based anglers Godfreys Ave has been the spot to try with trevally, flathead, bream and the odd jack getting taken on fresh baits. Crabs have still been running with the banks around Bli-Bli Islands worth a try. Further up the stretch from Coolum Creek to Dunethin Rock is worth a try small school jew and jack getting caught on the change of the tide from high to low.
On the beaches, dart have been prolific over the past week along the Marcoola stretch. Whiting and flathead have also been on the bite on the run in tide with cured worms and small mullet strips working well. Legal size tailor have been reported along Coolum beach and around the three bays taking place on the low light periods.
Offshore over the past weekend anglers have made the most of the conditions to make a run outside. Those that did we’re rewarded with quality pelagics coming from the wide grounds with the northern side of the banks being the pick.
