Offshore bite red hot!!

With the fantastic weather we had last weekend, angler where spoilt for choice with the river beach and offshore all firing. In the river; with the cleaner water pushing in on the run in tide, try fishing the channel edges alongside Chambers Island with cracker whiting up to 40cm reported coming from the area. A couple of hours on the low tide pumping yabbies can really pay off when it comes to a good feed of whiting. Flathead are also on the bite, with the area from Black Banks towards the mouth being the most productive. Chasing flathead with soft plastics has been proving quiet successful with a number of anglers getting goods results with the new Squidgy Wild Prawns. Further upriver jacks, nice sized jew and even the odd threadfin have been caught around Petrie Creek and as far as Dunethin Rock. Live bait has been the key, with some nice hearing and live prawns coming up in the nets, now is the time to mastered the cast net, if you are thinking of getting one or struggling to cast the one you have, call into Davos Northshore Bait and Tackle and we will give you a rundown on how to cast them.
On the beaches; the gutters along Marcoola beach have been home to an array of species from dart, whiting, bream and flathead. Northshore beach has seen the odd tailor and jew of a night time with bonito and fresh mullets strips doing the damage. With the water temperatures starting to drop slightly we should see some good sized sea bream as wells as tarwhine starting to show.
The offshore scene; Coolum Reef and Arkwright Shoals have had a red hot bite over the past week, with a number of good size sweetlip and spangled emperor caught, out wider the inner Gneerings fished well with good sweetlip, trout, squire and even big spanish and spotted Mackerel. Now that the water has starting to clear we should see the pelagics really start to fire. Also there have been good report of yellowfin, longtail and mac tuna schooling up around Old Woman Island, judging by the bird activity just offshore the tuna are crashing into the bait schools just beyond the breakers.
