Report 12/3/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Mar 12, 2015 1:39 pm

The weather this weekend is most certainly going dictate where we fish. The Wind and the swell are predicted to steadily increase over the next few days to an uncomfortable 16 knot+ wind speed and 2m+ swell. Hopefully all this will settle so we can go out on the Sunday but this has been predicted to settle on the Monday/Tuesday.

There has been plenty going on the last week. The rivers, the beaches and the reefs have all produced some great table fish. It isn’t all about that one in a lifetime catch but as they say you have got to be in it to win it.

The rivers have been running hot on the Z-man soft plastics and the Atomic Hard Bodies. Both have been in the thick of things when it comes to some quality mangrove jacks, flathead and bream. But if lures don’t take your fancy and just want to take the kids fishing than the best baits for a variety of fish would be beach worms and prawns. Although for something different the bait that has started to creep up in popularity is the pipi’s and froggies. All these have been catching a nice variety of fish.

The beach has been running hot on the Dart and will continue too as well. The low tide is best to fish as the gutters are easier to reach. A reported 40cm Dart was caught during the week at Pt Cartwright. Some nice school Jew have been reported as well with a couple of great Black Jew off the beaches. Best bait for both these species is the beach worms, prawns and a pilly on gangs (4/0 or 5/0) for the Jew. So let’s hope the beach doesn’t get battered with the rise in swell.

Off shore has been the pick of the bunch with plenty of Grassies off the reef and some Pearl Pearch to match. For the angler who really enjoys a sport fish on reasonably light lines the Longtail Tuna are in and are plentiful. The best way I have found to catch these isn’t to drive over them but to take a wide berth and get up wind or current and drift back into them. Flick some Z-man Soft plastics, Chrome Twisters or a 10-12cm Rapala X-rap and listen to the spool spin.
We now have a Youtube Channel so jump on and check some of the informative video’s we are posting up. We would also consider adding any home video’s, of great action be it river, ocean or beach. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiMyWs ... RaWdTsQmnw
