Snapper fishing Starting to fire!

The conditions over the past week haven’t been too favourable for offshore anglers across the coast, however with the weather improving we should see many more boats making a run outside. If you’re chasing big snapper then the wider ground is where the quality fish are. Fishing the back end of the banks has been paying dividends for anglers with reds up to 5kg. Bottom bashing with the standard paternoster rig should do the job, though there are a few clever tricks you can do to customize your rig, like placing a soft plastic above your bait to keep a presentation in front of fish after you’ve been baited. Micro jigs have also been working well with the 45g Marias and the new ZetZ Slow Blatt in the 60g being the standouts.
On the beaches sea bream, tarwhine and dart have been coming through the gutters along Northshore with the early morning highs fishing best. Chopper Tailor have also been coming through in small schools along the coast front during dusk. Jew fishing over the past couple of weeks has been a bit slow, however with the new moon (3rd June) paired with good tides should bring them onto the bite.
In the River the Black Banks stretch has been fishing well of a night for nice size bream, trevally on surface and flathead. The stretch from Chamber Island to the Motorway Bridge has turned it on over the past week with trevally, chopper tailor, flathead and the odd standout jew all coming from the area. Soft plastics are definitely the key with Gastronomic shad tails weighted with a 1/8th 1/0 TT jig head, with of course an added smear of S-Factor.
