Maroochy River on FIRE! Flathead and bream on the bite!

The Maroochy River has been a hive of activity over the past week with some exceptional catches across the board. Good size bream, chopper tailor, and cracking flathead have come onto the bite with the colder weather. Prawns and mullet strips have been working well for the bait fisho’s along with Zman Slim SwimZ and Westin Nories in the 4” size for soft plastics anglers. The River Mouth has been the spot to be, try and fish the first couple of hours of the run in as this is when the majority of fish have been caught. The Twin Waters Weir has been fishing well for bream and trevally with some standout models being reported. Land based, Godfreys Wall and the Banks near the Bli-Bli Bridge have been fishing well for flathead, bream, grunter bream and whiting. Upriver nice size jew have been caught on big live baits out the front of Coolum Creek and further upriver towards Dunethin Rock.
On the beaches, with the new moon just happening tied with the cold snap we should expect to see some great catches of jew and tailor. When chasing jew around the new moon it pays to fish the tides, if your can, concentrate your efforts around the top of the tide. Be aware also as there are plenty of bream all along the beach front and are making short work of big strip baits.
Offshore; for those that made a trip out wide over the last week were certainly rewarded. The Northern End of the Banks was fishing well for green jobfish, snapper, pearlies, parrot, amberjack and moses perch. Micro Jigs have done the trick with many anglers getting great success both in close and out wide, remember to vary your jigs weight depending on what depth and current that you’re fishing in. The Outer Gneerings has also been fishing well with good reports of sweetlip, tuskies, squire and pearlies.
