Report 27/7/15

Perfect angling weather last weekend!

Offshore; conditions backed off over the weekend making it an enjoyable few days for those that went outside. Fishing was tough though in close with few squire, sweetlip and tuskies on the chew. Overnight trips are the go especially with the small tides, try and get a good burley trail going, then send down a couple of light or even unweighted float lines. Caloundra wide and the Northern End of the Banks have both been fishing well for snapper, amberjack, pearl perch and tuskies.

On the beaches; the run of big sea bream we’ve seen over the past few weeks are just starting to slow down, however the gutters along Marcoola beach are still holding some decent size fish. Flathead have also been in good numbers along Marcoola Beach with small pillies and soft plastics claiming their fair share. Of the rocks there have been plenty of golden trevally and good size bream with the odd tailor coming through, try small pillies or a 10-20gr slug spun through the middle of the water column.

The Maroochy River has been turning it on over the past week with good reports of flathead, trevally, jewfish and bream throughout the system. For those that braved the small scuds and went out after dark were well and truly rewarded. Bream were on the bite around midnight with some reports of anglers getting up to thirty fish. Flathead and trevally have been in good numbers off Godfreys Wall and in the upper reaches of Petrie Creek. The deeper holes around Bli-Bli Islands have been producing nice size school jew with blades and soft vibes doing the trick.
