New Moon and night fishing the best time to target big Jew!

The weather wasn’t quiet perfect over the past week with the wind sitting at an average of around 10-15 knots, however for those that took to the water were rewarded. For the beach fisherman looking to target jew; the new moon is coming up on Saturday the 15th along with good tides. Jew fish are an ambush predator and like to feed on the cover of darkness, this is why we like to fish the new moon. One of the most important things to keep in mind when targeting jew is to never shine a head torch into a gutter as this will turn them off. Fishing the tides and good gutter selection will greater increase your chances. Tailor have been on the bite over the past week with the gutters along Northshore and Marcoola Beaches producing good size fish.

In the rivers; flathead and trevally have been active around Goat Island with soft plastics like the Berkley Powerbait 4” Nemesis catching some good size fish. Land based, the River Mouth and the Black Banks stretch have been fishing well for bream, flathead and a few nice whiting. With the water being extremely clear it pays to drop your leader size down as light as possible. Early morning fishing around the Motor Way Bridge can pay off with small Gt’s and big eye trevally hanging around the deeper water. Upriver jewfish, estuary cod, and even the odd jack are getting caught around Dunethin Rock with both soft plastics and live baits working well, soft vibes like the River 2 Sea Fish Candy are worth a try.

Offshore; with the wind and swell up for most of last week, it made things a little difficult for the smaller craft to make a run outside. The outer reefs are still fishing well with the Banks being the pick of the spots. Big snapper upwards of 90cm have been reported with the good old floated pilchard doing the honours.

Now for all the latest information log onto for up to date bar and fishing reports and don’t forget to drop into Davo’s Tackle World Noosa or Davo’s Bait &Tackle Northshore at Marcoola to find out what’s biting and where, and remember Tight Lines and Bent Spines!
