Maroochy report

Over the last week the big ESE and SE winds coming through it sure made things difficult to head outside, however with the wind dropping out and the swell coming good we should see the offshore conditions starting to drop out. On the reefs; in close has been pretty poor over the last month with anglers just managing to catch their bag of squire. If you’re looking to fish in close, try heading out early in the morning or even look at doing an overnight trip. Burley has been the key in getting fish to bite. Out wider is where the actions happening with the Southern End of the Hards and the Top End of the Banks fishing well for snapper to 5kg, amberjack, cobia, jew, parrot and moses perch. Slowly worked micro jigs and 5” Zman plastics has been doing the trick. The TT Vector Jigs have proven to be very popular with their compact design and solid assist hooks they are a standout amongst the micro jig range.

On the beaches; the new moon we had last Sunday paired with big tides saw tailor come onto the bite along the beachfront, with Northshore Beach and Peregian beaches holding the majority of fish. Whole pilchards rigged on 4/0 gangs as well as bonito fillets were working best. The odd jew are also being reported on the prowl after dark.

In the river; trevally and jack have been on the bite after dark at the entrances of both Petrie Creek and Eudlo creek. Slowly rolled prawn soft plastics like the gladiator prawns have been working well. Upriver the stretch of water between the Bli-Bli islands and Coolum Creek has been fishing well for flathead and bream on the last of the run out tide on peeled prawns and 3” style soft plastics. School jew have been inhabiting the deeper holes upriver from Coolum Creek, Paddle vibes and Fork vibes like the Transam 95 Crank Baits in the 20 grams have been working well.
