The upper reaches turning it on for lure anglers!

Yes that right the upper reaches of the Maroochy River have been on fire with legal size jewfish, jacks, trevally and flathead all on the bite. After the recent rain the deeper holes are where you find the fish to be holding. Soft vibe lures Such as Jackall Transams and Zerek Fish Traps have been the standout lures. The best technique to target all species with a soft vibe lure is a slow roll with your rod tip pointed down along with a couple of light lifts of the rod tip, mimicking a wounded baitfish. Remember to always be ready to strike as fish will often take vibes right by the side of the boat. Live baits have also been fishing well upriver, will an abundance of poddy mullet and herring gathering around the mouth of Coolum Creek. Mud crabs have also been on the move after the rain with some good bucks reported around Bli-Bli Islands. An early morning fish around the Motorway Bridge can pay off with big bream and trevally holding tight to the pylons, slow rolling chubby hardbodies and smaller plastics with light leader has seen some quality fish pulled out.
On the beaches, the gutters along Northshore beach have been holding some good size tarwhine, bream and dart with the odd flathead also in the mix. Worms, prawns and whitebait have been working best. The odd good size tailor have been coming making their way south with anglers getting size fish after dark.
Offshore; last week we only saw a few days during midweek that were good enough to get outside. And for those that could, surely weren’t disappointed! The wider grounds again were where the bigger fish are with quality snapper, pearl perch and cobia coming from the Banks. The closer grounds like the Nearing’s, Coolum reef and Hancock Sholes have also seen some quality fish, pan sized snapper sweetlip and the odd coral trout have all made their way to the dinner table. Just a Quick reminder that the spanner crab season closure runs throughout Queensland from midnight 20 November to midnight 20 December.
