Report 24/12/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Thu Dec 24, 2015 10:25 pm

It’s Christmas Eve and we have had plenty of anglers out and about chasing some nice pearl perch and mackerel. Today’s forecast is fantastically calm weather with a chance of rain. There is a chance of rain over the next few days but the winds have been predicted around 10 knots and swell around 1m.
There are plenty of mud crabs around in a few secrets spots locally with a few good sand crabs as well. With everyone finalizing there shopping the fishing is improving and is worth heading out for one last crack before the big family fun of Christmas Day. Whiting and Trevally have been caught in the Mooloolah River with some consistency with a few elbow slappers off the boat ramp.

The offshore fishing is working well with some well-presented baits and quality lures. Mackerel have been caught around 9 and 12 mile off Caloundra while The Banks and Caloundra Wide have seen some nice Wahoo, Dolphin Fish and billfish. There are a few nice Pearl Perch and the odd snapper around so there is a bit of a variety. If trolling isn’t working try the drift but most of all look for some bait balls to land some good quality fish.
