Fishing the incoming tide is the answer!

Unfortunately the weather over the past week has not been the best for offshore anglers, with the bay and closer reefs the best option. A quick run home as the wind increases mid-morning has seen many angler home before the sun gets too high in the sky. For those that did brave the elements the closer reef have actually been producing, sweetlip trout and squire have all been in close as well as a mix of mac and longtail tuna on the surface, Mackerel have headed further afield as the dirty water continues to flow out of the rivers.
With the weather the way it is many anglers are fishing the river, The upper reaches of the river are still quite dirty and running relatively fresh, so to maximise your chances planning your efforts towards the river mouth chasing cleaner water around the high tide period will definitely provide dividends. The last of the run in tide when the water quality is best, especially coinciding with dawn and dusk has seen a few Jew fish and mangrove jack being extracted from the cod hole and around the pylon of the bridge. Large live poddy mullet have been gun baits if you can get them or second option being slabs of fresh mullet. For the lure fisherman larger paddle tail soft plastics which emit more vibration and soft vibes in brighter colours have also produced. For the first hour and a half of the run out tide the mouth to Eudlo and Cornmeal creek would definitely be worth a shot for jack, flathead and whiting as they recede into the main river chasing more saline waters. Goat Island has reported to be produces relatively good numbers of whiting on the last of the incoming tide, with a few healthy flathead kicking about. The river mouth is still holding large congregations of bait, which the trevally species have been taking full advantage of feeding along the dirty water line. Surface walkers like the River2Sea Skinny dog and Bassday Sugar pens have been working a treat. Sub surface they have been taking fast twitched soft plastics, the Squidgy Whip baits 80mm in white lightning and Zman 3.75” Streakz in smokey shad consistently producing. . As per usual post rain the crabs will be on the move, making it worth your while dropping in a few pots whilst out on the water. The use of Fresh mullet baits have seen most crabbers rewarded with a good feed of sweet full bucks!
