Report 12/2/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Feb 12, 2016 3:12 pm

February 6
It is still quite bumpy for offshore fishing but inside the rivers are proving to be popular with a phenomenal amount of Trevally and Bream in the Canals feeding hard up along the banks in the Mooloolah River. We are heading close to the new moon and with the rain we should see plenty of Mangrove Jack and Flathead on the chew. Jew fish will also be hanging in the deep gutters along the beach and the Juveniles will be in the river systems too.

Mangrove Jack are out in numbers for the experienced Jack hunters. Trevally and Bream are hitting baits hard up in the canals early morning and late afternoon. I reckon a prawn lure like the Zerek Live Shrimp may do the trick for these species or floating some prawns and strip baits with as light of weight as possible. It's time to throw a crab pot out as the fresh water comes down stream throw them in a deeper pocket and hopefully you will land a few bucks.

Morning report:
Fishing the gutters along the Kawana Beaches will be finally good enough to fish and lets hope the wind stays away for the afternoon. The new moon is here tomorrow night so now is the right time to start chasing some quality Jew fish off the beach. The gutters are wide and fairly deep in places so they should be holding some quality fish.
Afternoon report:
The rain has stayed away and the rivers are full of bait and the larger preditors are feeding on dawn and dusk. There are plenty of prawns about with the facebook feeds filling up on the great sizes available. I think it would be great to invest in a cast net while these are around. There is only one thing better than using fresh prawns for bait. Thats eating fresh prawns.

Morning report:
Offshore fishing is a no go but the action is getting better onshore. Trevally are hitting the bait inside the canals and are in good numbers. Soft plastics are making the difference with chosen colours out of the Zman range being - baby bass, pearl, watermelon red and motor oil in the Slim SwimZ and 3" paddle tail. Mangrove jack have been caught on the 5" Curl Tailz copper penny and watermelon red. Prawn lures are also being taking with zerek brand the better options. Tonight is New Moon and I would be fishing the beach if the condition are calm enough. Jew fish like a bit of swell and deep gutters which we have. Bonito and Mullet Fillets are a good start with strips of squid.
Afternoon report:
Mangrove Jack and Jew fish heaven for the next 5 days at least. There is also some good news with reports of Trevally in the canals and the weather for afternoon fishing is great for the next week. Winds will drop in the afternoon and it looks like we will be tapering down to a good weekend of fishing. There are plenty of Mud crabs and the chosen bait for the pots are mullet heads.
