Big Swells make it tough for offshore anglers!

According to the weather reports both the wind and swell are due to drop out towards the latter part of the week. With that being said the Maroochy and Mooloolah rivers are fishing very well for trevally, bream, mangrove jacks and queenfish. Firstly try concentrate fishing around the change of the tides in particular the last of the run out to the start of the run in. Spend a little time searching for bait shows on your sounder before fishing, for lure anglers a well worked surface walker or popper can produce a vast array of fish. Early morning and late in the evening is definitely they key when targeting fish on the surface, always change up your retrieve to you find what works. Bream have been on the bite and are starting to gather amongst the bridge pylons. Light leader and smaller size hooks and sinkers are needed to fool the fish into a bite, also the added help of burley never goes astray. The upper parts of the Mooloolah and Maroochy Rivers have been running hot still with mud crabs, however there have been quite a few big jennies around. Anglers that have been getting most success have been working their pots on the tides and also baiting heavy with fresh mullet.
On the beaches; reasonable size dart have accounted for most of the action, fresh mullet fillet, pippis and small pilchards have been working well. Bream have been coming on the bite on the start of the run in tide with the majority of fish coming through the front section of the gutters. Reports of the odd big jew coming from Northshore Beach and the gutters towards the River mouth bonito strips and fresh mullet strips have been the gun bait.
Offshore; over the past week conditions weren’t favourable for the offshore anglers, so few reports have come back to the shop. However there have been a nice run of pelagics still coming by the coast with the wider grounds producing the better size fish.
