Report 11/3/16

March 9
Morning report: offshore has been reported as being into a bit of a purple patch recently. Limited boats have been offshore but there has been some fantastic catches of snapper and spanish. If you have the boat and the sea legs its definately worth a crack. The rivers and estuaries have fished well at night for Mangrove Jack in the upper reaches and during the day whiting and Trevally have reigned suprememe. Surface lures and soft plastics will add to the excitement around the Mooloolaba canals and Labalsa Park.
Afternoon report: there were some really nice catches taken by those who chose to brave the seas in hope of a feed, reports of some solid(80-90cm) snapper on currimundi reef and some quality Grass Emperor on Murphy's reef and the Gneerings and there have Been some Spanish Mackeral taken at all of these places but only when not using wire as they have been feeding pretty tentatively. The rivers have been producing well with some nice Flathead Bream and Whiting still being caught around the lower reaches of the Mooloolaba river, as some good numbers of Trevally being caught too.

Morning report: Offshore fishing has been amazing for the boats heading out. Plenty of mackerel, snapper, tusk fish and big sweetlip. Floating pillies, slimies and live bait have worked with the mackerel. While the same method has worked with the reef fish. A light burley of pellets and cubed pillies have increased the catch with limited shark action. The estuaries have increased their catch rate also with plenty of bream and, whiting and off the mouth of the Mooloolah River somne big grunter and school mackerel. Trevally species are around the rocky headland with a quite a few in the canals.
Afternoon report: tuna chasing bait around sunshine reef and good catches including Coral Trout Gold spot cod and Moses Perch. There have been Dart(30-40cm) from the rocks fishing into the "Washing machine" at the bottom of the tide and the start of the run-in and the odd big Trevally.

Every day this week i have heard a great story about how crazy the fishing has been at point Cartwright and the mouth of the Mooloolaba river, Giant Trevally have being tearing line off reels around the rocks and in the mouth of the river with the best baits being ganged Pillies or Mullet fuilet. The weather is not looking workable for the off-shore fisherman but the river fishing should be awesome if you can stay out of the rain.

Corey got this Spaniard off Mooloolaba on a floated pilly on a set of gang hooks. He got heaps of runs on Live-baits but didn't hook up, and a few bite-offs before he got this quality fish.
Jack with a 50cm GT that he pulled out of the washing machine. It took a strip of mullet fillet and would have put up quite a fight.
