Time to chase snapper on plastics!

Anglers over Coast were treated to an exceptional run of weather over the past week. With a good majority taking advantage of the conditions and heading outside. Squire and snapper were about on both the in close and wide grounds. For those fishing out of smaller craft try heading south towards Currimundi reef however for those that have a boat capable of heading wide then don’t hold back. The Banks were holding good size snapper to 5kg with some standout fish caught on soft plastics. The 5” Zman Scented Paddlerz rigged on the correct jig head is a snapper slayer. Remember when snapper fishing with soft plastics that it pays to fish with the lightest possible jig head you can use for the conditions. Pearl perch and cobia have also been caught out in reasonable numbers out from Caloundra 12 Mile.
On the beaches; fishing during the middle of the day has been a little slow for most. However if you venture down during the low light periods can definitely pay off. Good tailor, bream and flathead are coming through the gutters during the early morning with worms, pillies and whitebait being the standout baits. After dark there have also been tailor around along with tarwhine and the odd jewfish.
In the river; the River Mouth has been the pick of spots with the change of tide bringing fish onto the bite. Drifting baits along with the tide is the best way to pick up a couple of keepers. The sand flats surrounding Chambers Island have been fishing well for bream, trevally, tailor and good size winter whiting. Fresh or live baits are the best option. Trolling hardbody lures around the Motorway Bridge can produce good tailor and trevally remember to run fluorocarbon leader as it’s completely different to using monofilament line. The banks around the Bli-Bli Bridge have been producing a heap of legal size flathead over the past two weeks with both soft plastics and bait working a treat. If you like fishing with Soft plastics or a just starting try the Squidgy Whipbaits out they are dynamite on flathead!
There has been the odd rumour around as of late that mud crabs are out and about, if you decide to go remember to bait your pots heavily with fresh bait if you can get it. Mullet is by far the best bait for mud crabs.
