Flathead in good numbers in the River!

With the wind up over the later part of last week a lot of angler took the time to take a look at their gear and update lines and tackle. With the weekend looking a lot more promising angler were again out in force. On the river the bottom half of the river has been were most angler have been concentrating their efforts. Fishing the edges of mud and sand banks has produced some great flathead, soft plastics like the new Zman Ez Shrimpz has been a real hit. These soft plastics are a great prawn imitation and come in a sensational rage of colours. They also come pre rigged ready to tie straight on. Another fish we are seeing good number of are whiting, worms yabbies and pealed prawns have been the go too baits. Fishing a couple of hours either side of the high tide. Crabs are also starting to make an appearance with the upper reaches of the river the best areas for muddies. Make sure you; leave your pots in for a fully tide cycle to get the best results.
On the beaches the afternoon breezes have been a little hard to deal with so a morning fish has been the best bet. Whiting dart and bream have all been inhabiting the closer gutters with two hours either side of the high tide the best to fish. With the passing of the full moon we should see evening beach conditions also improve. Tailor have been in good numbers making their way back from Fraser Island with some big fish amongst them. Queenies and trevally have been taken off Yaroomba Rocks with fast moving lures firing them up, the GT ice-creams are one such lure and rigged with a single hook seem to bounce over the rocks without snagging up.
On the offshore seen, Again the wind has played havoc with most anglers opting to leave the boat on the trailer or fishing the river, for those in bigger craft that braved the conditions the Gneerings fished well for sweetlip, trout and squire. A few mackerel were also boater in the same area. Caloundra Wide saw some nice cobia boated with the pilchard floater the most productive bait.
September School Holidays saw the Davo’s Junior Fishing Competition run and won. The comp was open to angler14 years and under. The Major prize was a Shimano Force Combo and two packets of Squidgy plastics! Kalani Love was the proud winner with a catch of a cracker Golden trevally.
