Maroochy River Really Producing!

The Maroochy River has been fishing well this week with good Whiting have been caught around the black banks and surrounding areas with yabbies, peeled prawns and worms the prime baits. Twin Waters has been one of the prime spots for Trevally and queenies, this speedsters have been taking a liking to lightly weighted live herring on a snelled rig. For those that love there plastics the Boom Baits from Samaki have also claimed some good fish. The odd Jewie has been coming from the Cod Hole and the deeper holes upriver. Just before sunrise has been the prime time with the majority taking soft vibe lures like River 2 Seas Fish Candy and the Samaki Thumper Tails, another tip is to make sure your fishing tight to the bottom. For those anglers chasing flathead, the front of Eudlo creek and Petrie creek have had some good fish, the best results have been on the run out tide. Coolum creek and upriver to Dunethin Rock have been the best for big jacks taking livies and suspending hardbodies casted around the rock ledges and snags. Mud crabs are on the go around the Bli Bli islands and up most creek inlets, fresh mullet is definitely the best bait for these tasty crustaceans, make sure you know the rules about crabbing before putting your pots in as it can be a hefty fine for those caught breaking the rules. For all the info call into one of the Davo’s Shops and we will give you all the relevant Info.
Snapper, Sweetlip, jew and cobia can still be found around areas like the Inner and Outer Gneerings, and also the back end of Murphys. Coloundra 12 Mile also produced some nice squire through the week. Live Yakkas and Slimy mackerel are definitely the best chance to hook up to the bigger fish. Make sure you have your trolling lures when moving spots as mackerel are starting to come into our local areas. Anglers that hit the outer reefs also did well with some large snapper and pearl perch. Mac Tuna schools are also around and have been spotted on the closer reefs like Coolum and Arkwright Sholes. Small slugs are your best bet as they are feeding on small Rain Bait at the moment.
On the beaches tailor are still making their way back south after spawning, good quality fish have been taken around the Maroochy River mouth and the rocks down at Point Cartwright. Fresh Mullet, bonito and pilchard baits have nailed most of the fish. Dart are in good numbers with most fish in close, this is great for the kids as they don’t have to cast a mile, prawns and small fish baits have claimed plenty. We are also seeing some good quality whiting coming from the same area, live worms and pippies have been the go to bait.
