Some great fish caught with the warm weather!

The heat we’ve been experienced over the past week that has been brought on by the northerly winds has been perfect for anglers targeting mangrove jacks! The afternoon storms are also great for the jacks as there is nothing more that jacks like then a change in the weather particularly when the barometer is peaking before a drop. large live bait around are ideal rigged on two 4/0 octopus hooks. Fishing for jacks at night with soft plastics can be extremely effective and with plenty of prawns in the river lures like the Zerek Live Shrimp are perfect. These lures are also perfect on flathead, trevally, and school jew. Whiting are still in good numbers around the river mouth and Chambers Island flats. Live nippers, worms and surface lures have all been working well. For best results try fishing a couple of hours eather side of the high tide. Tailor are still being reported from around the river mouth with the majority of fish the green back varity. Mud crabs have been running throughout the river with anglers that are constantly working there pots and using fresh baits have been getting a good size bucks. The Motorway Bridge has seen some good captures over the past week with trevally, jacks, school jew and bream all hanging around the structure. Queenfish have been really firing in Twin Waters, small Micro Jigs have been smashed by the queenies are have had those smaller spin reels smoking as they speed off.
On the beaches; whiting and dart have been the most common captures along the Coast with some being caught in the gutters along Coolum Beach. Beach worms, pippies and peeled prawns have been the go. Smaller Jew amd sweetlip have come from the rocks around Yaroomba. Fresh mullet and squid have been the baits of choice.
Offshore; conditions weren’t the best last week with the wind, Weekend mornings were the best with the wind dropping out temporarily. For those lucky enough to get out were definitely rewarded. The Gneerings seemed to be the standout spot lately with everything from small kingfish, spotted and school mackerel through to squire being caught. Micro jigs from the TT range along with Shimano Coltsniper jigs are the standouts. Using the suitable size jig to the area your fishing is important. For any more info on technique, jig weights and colour just drop by the shop.
