Report 23/12/16

With the wind and swell being up over the past week it sure makes it a little difficult to make a run outside. Those that got out early over the weekend did see some success. Larger snapper come from the deeper water around Murphys Reef, while the Gneerings and Coolum Reefs produced some nice squire and sweetlip. There are pelagics around with most fish taken on floated live baits and pilchards. Caloundra wide also produced some cobia patriot and pearl perch. As the season progresses we should see more pelagics making their way down the coast.

On the beach, early morning and late afternoons are the go, with whiting, dart and flathead coming from Marcoola and Northshore beaches. Tailor have been caught around the river mouth and Pincushion Island. Some angler have been having success with large soft plastic cast into the surf and retrieved at speed. Fishing right on dusk or first light with mullet or bonito stripes on ganged hooks has seen some good results. There are some school jew about with the odd bigger one coming from the mouth. Trevally have also been around the mouth on the incoming tide as they chase baitfish making their way into the river.

Black Banks and the flats off Chambers Island have been fishing very well of a night time for big whiting, with nippers, pealed prawns and cured worms doing the trick. Trevally have been active underneath the motorway bridge in the early hours with small surface poppers and live herring being on the menu. The mouth of Petrie and Eudlo creeks are still holding some nice flathead with a variety of soft plastics and baits being taken. Mud crabs are active in the upper reaches at the moment with the channels along Bli-Bli Islands and the deeper holes surrounding Coolum Creek stretch holding a few big bucks. Nice size school jew have also been present up around Dunethin rock with soft vibes lure like the River 2 Sea Fish Candy working well. Jacks have also been feeding well on live baits like poddy mullet and herring. For any more info on what working and were jump in and speak to either Mike or Wade.

From all the staff at both our Noosa and Marcoola Stores we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas.

The longish trip to Double Island Point proved worthwhile for the bigger boats this week with squire, pearlies, AJs, jewfish, dollies, Maori cod, grass sweetlip, tuskfish and trag all making their presence felt. Nick Goureaud from Noosaville jigged up this nice amberjack in that area on a Trekka 2 charter.
