Report 13/1/17

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jan 13, 2017 5:18 pm

January 10
There has been enough reef fish caught for a feed yesterday with some parrot off Murpheys and the Gneerings and a few Spanish off Coolum. Soft plastics has worked hard up along old woman and along the Gneerings for some squire. There were tuna schools off the Pt Cartwright headland yesterday so keep your eyes peeled for birds working.
There seems to be plenty of whiting down in the pumicestone passage at the moment with continued reports of great catches. There are more than enough variations of species caught in the Mooloolah River with Bream, Whiting, Flathead and Golden Trevally regularly caught. Use Pipi's, whitebait and small pillies for best results.
There are a few mackerel around the Gneerings and blinker with Coolum offering a few as well. Grassies are in good numbers along the outer Gneerings and Murpheys is holding Parrot Fish.
The rivers are good for Golden trevally with a few caught yesterday and today at Labalsa Park. Whiting bream and flathead are in good numbers also.
Jack sent in this nice flatty caught trolling in the Mooloolah canals.

Some solid Whiting have been taken on beach worms along the beach here at Budina if you can get past the swarms of small dart that have been testing at times and in the creeks the Flathead have been quite active with some good fish being taken on small ganged pillies and plastics such as the motor oil Slim SwmZ from Zman. A mate of mine got a 68cm Barra up in the in the Parreara Channel on the weekend on a live herring and some friends of the shop got a big Giant Herring from LaBalsa Park late last week so there are certain some good fish getting around.

January 12
There have been a few reports of some Long-tail Tuna starting to show up over the last couple of days and mix reports of the Mackerel getting around with best results but for best results try trolled live-bait or our terrific Slimmy mackerel on Woghead type setup.
There have also been a few Mudcrabs getting caught in the Mooloolah river and good numbers of Flathead, also there have been quite a few unstoppable fish hooked at the mouth of the river over the last week with them taking smoking runs followed by bust off's or bite-off's on baits such as pilchards and floated slimmies. Whiting in the Basin on the run-in tide and a few solid Bream from the rock wall at the mouth of the river.
Multiple reports of Spainish Mackerel at the Gneerings and Coolum Reef and lots of Bonito and Mackerel Tuna chasing Bait around and Dolphinfish at the Mooloolaba game fishing fad along with some reports of Black marlin getting around there as well.
Our Photo's today are bought to you by Zac who got this Beautiful coppery 54cm Mangrove Jack in the Maroochy river last night! it smashed a 5" Zman soft plastic. Our next pic is of a awesome Spainish Mackerel taken around the Gneerings Shoals this morning by Chris who got this 120cm fish and another one on deep diving lures ealy this morning.

The Beaches have been producing some large Whiting,Bream and the odd legal Dart and a couple of big Shovelnose sharks have been pulled out of the Pocket right at the top of the beach in passing days. In the Mooloolah river has been much the same as far as far as Bream and Whiting go but with the added excitment of of some nice Flathead getting around and the Trevally speicies as well as Mangrove Jacks and the odd Sunshine coast Barra if your very lucky.
