Report 24/3/17

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Apr 07, 2017 4:56 pm

March 22
there have been reports of Queenies and GT's on Soft plastics around the Mouth of the Mooloolah river and rock walls at the mouth and some nice Flathead have been caught on livebaits and plastics aroun that area as well.
This pic is one of the Mack tuna I got just out from Mooloolaba on Sunday morning while flicking small plastic(4") Zman StreakZ's in white/pearl into the bust ups, we omly went out for a couple of hours but had a great time and hooked some bigger Long-tail tuna that we didnt manage to get to the boat, but had an awesome morning out all the same.

The Long-tail Tuna and other tuna speices have been going berserk early morning in the bay you don't need to go far to get amoungst the action, early morning is producing the best results with it being said to be "all over" by 9am.
there have been nice great Dart and the Odd Grassie sweetlip taken off the rocks at point cartwright and in the Mooloolah river the Bream have been feeding on prawns and the Gt's (Giant Trevally ) have been been herding bait against the rock around the rocks at the river mouth, i also had a report of a few nice Mangrove Jacks being caught overnight at the Barage of Kawana way on livies which is also exciting.
This photo is of a beautiful mixed feed of fish caught on and around the Gneerings Shoals last weekend by Dennis who got the Spainish on a trolled hardbodied lure and the Reefies such as the Grass Sweetlip and Tuskies and Moses Perch(Moses Snapper) on bait fished close to the bottom.

Tuna Season is full swing with multiple reports of "Acres" of boiling water out there today and fishermen catching as many as they need in a very short time and then of course catching and safely releasing the rest. There is heaps of bait around and also a few other mix pelagics such as a few Mackerel around the Gneerings Shoals and Wahoo and Dolphin fish out wider and around the FAD's.
There have been some great catches of Flathead in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah river and there have been a few trevally hitting white plastics around the rock walls on the hightide.
