Weekly Report 14 Dec 12

Post by Brad » Fri Dec 14, 2012 7:18 pm

Well, the weeks have flown by and Christmas is just around the corner. I hope you’ve all been good – maybe Santa will leave some new fishing gear under the tree for you! The fishing around the Bundaberg area has still been great. The offshore grounds have been fishing well when the weather permits. Some big coral trout and the odd big red emperor have been caught. Some big snapper have also made their presence felt. Sweetlip, parrot and hussar have been plentiful as well. There are plenty of pelagic species about for the sport fisherman with spanish mackerel, tuna, trevally and dolphin fish as well as some small black marlin all being caught.

The local rivers and creeks are all fishing well with the river mouths producing mackerel and queenfish. Most of the sand flats are producing, with soft plastics out-fishing baits. A few guys are catching up to fifteen flatties per session. There is still a good number of whiting and bream about for those wanting to soak a bait. Mangrove jacks are well and truly on the chew with most of the rock walls and deep holes producing a big jack. Live baits have been the best but lures have been catching their fair share of jacks as well, with Tranzams, Squirrels and Prawnstars doing the damage.

The Isis Impoundment (Lake Gregory) is producing a red hot bass bite with a lot of big bass being caught on surface poppers early mornings and by jigging plastics and Blades through the schooled-up bass in the main basin of the dam. Lake Monduran is producing plenty of small barra on small hard body lures such as Bombers and Jackall Squirrels. The “B” section seems to be the barra hot spot at the moment.
Till next time,
Tim Mulhall
