“Maroochy River” the Place to be as the Weather Warms
Offshore there has been a lot of action out wide with good reports of snapper, red throat, parrot fish and cobia all coming from the banks. One successful method many anglers are using out there is float lining. Float lining consists of usually a light/medium size outfit with your choice of braid or mono, as the name suggest you use very light weight sinkers and “float” the bait down through your burley trail to the fish below. Over the other side of town an early morning trip or overnighter to 8 mile has been fishing alright for snapper, sweetlip and other reef dwelling predators. In close there have been some promising signs of big pelagics around with spear fish’os getting into some big wahoo and dolphin fish off Coolum and Currimundi reefs!
Along the beachfront the gutters from Northshore beach to Marcoola beach have been reasonably thick with bream, dart, whiting and tarwhine. Early mornings paired up with a tide change gives you your best chance to get into some quality fish.
Back in the river, the stretch from the river mouth across the flats too Chambers Island has been firing on dusk for thumper whiting. Upriver the mouth of Coolum Creek has been fishing great for trevally, bream, jew, flathead and the elusive Mangrove Jack.
