Report 2/4/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Apr 02, 2015 1:46 pm

Welcome to the Easter break anglers. Don’t be scared of the rain. The weather has thrown us a few curve balls to start the holiday period. The wind and swell will drop and the showers will become lighter and hopefully disappear by the start of next week.
With the influx of fresh water to the estuaries the feeding frenzy should be red hot by the weekend. There will be plenty of food in the system so the mouth of the rivers will be firing. I suggest fishing with 2 rods around the rock walls and sand banks. Fish light and have one with some prawns and the other with a big slab of mullet fillet, whole pilly and/or squid for the bigger predators. The Maroochy River has been fishing well around Chambers Island and around the cod Hole. Labalsa Park and the river mouth have had great success with plenty of whiting, bream and flathead around the basin and the rock walls have had some squire and grunter. There are still plenty of Dart at the mouth off the rocks and headland. The mud crabs will be throughout all river systems especially with the fresh water.
There have been some great gutters forming around Pt Cartwright this week and there are 3 good ones that come to mind. All 3 are from the Pt Cartwright Drive and Pacific Blvd junction point toward the lighthouse. Around the Kawana Surf Club there are always nice gutters around there as well. Dawn and dusk with big baits can land you a magnificent Jew Fish. There is still plenty of Dart around and some nice flathead and whiting to boot.
For the boaties. Spotty mackerel are still at 12 Mile with the Spanish when landed are quite big. Murphys and Gneering have seen an abundance of pearl perch, grassy sweetlip and even some Coral Trout. Barwon Banks have seen plenty of reefies with some snapper coming into the catch as well. There’s been plenty of spotty, Spanish mackerel and tuna running right along the coast line so explore and find some good area’s for yourself. If you do anchor up I suggest burley as this brings the fish to you. Try to jig some live bait as well as this is a natural food source for the predators.

We now have a Youtube Channel so jump on and check some of the informative video’s we are
posting up. We would also consider adding any home video’s, of great action be it river, ocean or
beach. Please keep it PG. ... RaWdTsQmnw
