Report 7/12/17

Post by subeditor » Thu Dec 07, 2017 2:53 pm

We’ve had plenty of rain on the Gold Coast this week combined with big high tides from the full moon. This has given all the rivers a big flush out. Let’s have a look at what’s been happening this week.

Plenty of rain earlier in the week combined with some massive daytime high tides has seen the rivers on the Gold Coast get another big flush out. This is great for chasing a feed of Mud Crabs, customers that put the pots in this week have all scored a good feed throughout the Gold Coast waterways. The Coomera River, Pimpama, Logan, The Never Fails Islands, Tipplers Passage, Jacobs Well and Eden Island have all produced this week. Plenty of Sand Crabs are also still on offer on the edges of the main channels and around the sandbanks in Tiger Mullet Channel and Canaipa Passage.

After the rain the water quality will vary depending on tide and area you are looking at fishing. Through the main channels you can see the current lines where the fresh is meeting with the salt, these areas are great to look for bait and predators like Trevally, Tailor, Tarpon and Jew Fish prowling around. Also try fishing closer to the Pin Bar and Gold Coast Seaway especially on the run in tide as the water quality will be much better and some good fish should be on offer.

Customers have been scoring plenty of good Bream, they don’t mind a good flush out as they do like to scavenge around and will have a go at most baits presented to them. During School Holidays Bream are a great target for the kids, you will be able to catch fish both land based and from a boat. Some good land based spots are Paradise Point jetty and beaches, Runaway Bay canal entrances and around the bridges, Biggera Waters, Broadwater Parklands, Southport Bridge and Nerang River parks. Prawns, Squid, Mullet Fillet, Yabbies and Worms make great bait. Keep it simple and the kids will have a great time.

Flathead are still a good option with our customers scoring a few good eating sized fish this week, baits like Prawns, White Pilchards, Blue Bait, Mullet Fillet and Yabbies will work. For the lure fishos Casting Zman plastics, working Metal TT Switchblades and Zerek Fish Traps have also scored some nice fish. You also never know what other species will have a crack at your lure.

If you’re heading out on the weekend make sure to put the Crab Pots in while you’re having a fish.
Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.
