Report 9/2/18

Creeks:
Some better tides in the last week have seen some better catches from across the region. In particular the rock walls near the casino have produced some monster mangrove jacks and consistent barra. The jacks have fallen to an array of offering from mullet fillet to live baits like mullet or herring. It’s the size of these jacks that makes this report more interesting with fish up to 70cm being caught. Up in the Ross River weirs after that rain there were some great reports of some big swampys landed on soft plastics. Don’t forget you need a SIP (Stocked Impoundment Permit) to fish these weirs if you are over 18 years of age, and we have the largest range of soft plastics to suit the area, come in and ask the guys in store.

Inshore:
Not a lot to report from inshore areas, as the 30knot variables have kept many close to shore. However on these building tides and outlook of some good weather forecast I would imagine the headlands such as Cape Cleveland will be a hotspot for barra enthusiasts. Also inshore weed beds and rubbles patches should be an ideal time to look for big grunter, and the lunds squid would have to be one of the best baits around for them. Lead up to the moon will also be prime time for chasing fingermark, if you find the squid the fingermark won’t be too far away.

Thomas loves his fishing and put two solid days of fishing in catching plenty of small fish until he finally cracked it with this very nice grunter.

Offshore:
Once again with less than ideal conditions this past week has left many boats in the shed. If you haven’t checked out the outlook for Sunday into next week then have a look, unless you are working then don’t worry about it you won’t be happy! These tides look perfect for those who like to throw stick baits and poppers over the shallow reefs. If so we have just received some of the Atomic Semi Hardz stickbaits as well as the popular Westin Swims as well. Both are proven shallow water fish producers. Also the pressure points on the reefs should be good to launch a few bigger poppers for GTs. Check out the Nomad Designs Maverick in the 230mm version. A cracking lure with an incredible action! Look forward to seeing all the pics over the next week!
