It’s been a time coming but the Mackerel have finally turned up off Grassy Head in numbers. Although mainly Spotties, Spanish are in fair numbers as well. At the end of the week these fish went crazy taking live Slimies anchored or slow trolled. There are a few Sharks up there as well just waiting for a feed. On the bottom Snapper are on the bite with some big Pearl Perch caught through the week in particular one unit that went around 4 Kilo. In front of the Jail one or two Cobia were caught while we have had reports Marlin have shown up as well. The FAD is still holding Dolphin Fish on the wider grounds. Down south King Fish are around Fish Rock with a few Cobia, one caught around the 20 kilo mark. At the moment there are great stocks of live bait on the bait grounds.

The river is fishing well with some great catches of Flathead around Jerseyville, Clybucca and Rainbow Reach. There are some big Bream around the walls and Oyster Racks. Whiting are also in good numbers off the flats. There were a few smaller Cobia caught this week, this is the time of year they are the river.

Off the rocks Trevally and Tarwhine are in numbers with the odd King but down at the Hat, one or two Cobia and Mackerel have been landed with a few Sharks.

Of the beaches Smoky has been slow with fisho’s hooking heaps of little rays. Gap Beach is a better option with a few Whiting and the odd Flathead coming in.

Just a reminder the Seabreeze Hotel Fishing Club are holding their Huge Fishing Competition on the 19th and 20th of January with prizes of $500 for the biggest Snapper and Bream and secret weight prizes to $300 as well.
