Report 29/3/19

The good weather and sea conditions continued last week, not as many fisho’s here but there’s plenty of fish being caught. Grassy Head produced fish but there were just too many Sharks feeding on your fish. Most boats were forced to head further north to Scotts Head and reaped the rewards with Spanish in numbers, Wahoo and Spotted Mackerel. For some it has been frustrating due to the bust offs and finicky bite, killing the baits and not hooking up. Out in the deeper water a steady current is producing some nice reef fish like Pearl Perch, Snapper and Cod a little wider. Bait has been hard to find off our bait grounds but Scotts Head is loaded with Slimies. Off the Jail down to Black Rock Wahoo, Cobia, Tuna and the odd Spanish have been found.

The river is still a hit and miss situation with a few Flathead coming in throughout the system. Bream are along the walls but plenty are under size. You need to fish light to get the bigger crafty units. There have been some nice Whiting off the shallow flats around Jerseyville with a chance to pick up a Lizard or two out of the same location. Get some Herring from around the boat ramp and try in front of the Tavern for Flathead. There have again been reports of Mangrove Jack but the boys tell me they are further up river.

Smoky Beach has plenty of Dart coming in with a few Bream and whiting as has Gap Beach but really the beaches have not fired up as yet, but before long the Mullet will be running and the big Bream will follow.
