Report Tues 7th Feb 06

Post by Brad » Tue Feb 07, 2006 7:52 pm

The prawns have started to run and at the moment they are a bit scattered but within a few weeks they should school up and be a bit easier to catch. They are of reasonable size and those anglers who have put in a bit of time and effort have been rewarded with a good feed.

There's also been a few crabs about but there's not a lot of meat in them. Again, a few more weeks should see an improvement.

Due to the strong south-easterlies, fishing has been limited to the rivers. There is still some big bream and good sized grunter about, as is the odd jack and jew. Most of these have been caught around the rocks and bridges.

Around the river mouths there are some good sized schools of trevally and queenfish and they are more than willing to take a small popper or chrome slug.

Mixed in with them are a few school and Spanish mackerel and some big bluefin tuna.

The bass have slowed down with the south-easterlies but we are still receiving reports of the odd barra coming out of Monduran. Trolling the main basin of the dam has been a popular area, and using Barra Classics and Barra Baits have been hot favourites.

Best breezes,
