24/2/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 24, 2006 5:22 pm

Offshore: Small black marlin have been reported in and around The Pinnacle and the FAD. Mahi mahi are common but size remains an issue. Big kings have been hooked and lost at The Pinnacle and Seal Rocks. Reef fishing has been inconsistent. Bonito remain in big numbers around most headlands and in particular at Snapper Rock.
Beaches: The southern end of Sandbar Beach is said to have produced a few bream and some better quality tailor.
Rocks: No LBG action. Rocks between Smiths Lake and Seal Rocks have been the scene of some quality fishing. Big bream and tailor, the occasional mulloway and even some rat yellowfin tuna.
Estuary: Prawns and crabs are plentiful. Bream and whiting fishing is at its best after dark when the prawns are running. A few mulloway came from the main channel over the past weeks, but generally this form of fishing is below par. Lots of big bream crunching surface lures.
