Report 10/8/18

Calm conditions were with us again last week and unfortunately the fisho’s battled for a feed. There were a few Snapper and Pearlies off the reefs around Grassy but nothing of any size coming in. All the action has been around Fish Rock with some very nice Kingfish being caught in numbers. Green Island has some cracker Bream amongst the Rat Kings close in. Jewfish are in numbers around the 8 to 15 kilo mark out of a few locations off the Jail. Leather Jackets are still out wider forcing fisho’s in to the closer reefs.

The river is fishing well further up towards Smithtown and Kinchela for Flathead and Bream. The closer you get to the mouth the tougher the fishing is. Clear water is making it hard for the Blackfish hunters and the fisho’s chasing Bream and Jewfish. The Flathead grounds around Jerseyville have been productive for this time of the year. Try the Oyster racks with surface poppers or light plastics for those resident big Bream.

Off the rocks Tailor are hard to find in the calm conditions but there were some nice Drummer and Blackfish caught through the week. Sanding up around the rocks also is causing some problems.

On the beaches Back Beach has some nice Bream coming in on the dark with a Flathead or two. Smoky Beach is fishing ok but it’s tough to find a gutter to pull a Bream out of. There has been the odd Tailor caught but it would be nice to see a good swell come in for a few days and change the beach structure.
