Report 16/11/18

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Nov 16, 2018 4:26 pm

There were good signs of things to come this week with multiple Marlin spotted off the wider grounds and a fair Spanish Mackerel being cleaned on the fish table. A few Dolphin Fish are around the FAD at the moment in some pristine currents coming down. If you can get up past Scotts to Nambucca quality Snapper, Sambos and Kings were caught through the week. Closer to home Snapper were caught in close off Grassy with the odd Tusk Fish in the mix. Off the Jail we had reports of Jewfish and a few Kings a little wider out. Fish Rock is still fishing well for Kings with a heap of Rats amongst them. Dust off your Mackerel gear cause they are on their way. Let’s hope our live bait supply is not depleted by those boats from up north this year.

The river is producing some nice Whiting on Worms and Nippers in the bay across from the boat ramp. Flathead are a little hit and miss out of their normal haunts. The Walls are holding Bream along with the odd Mangrove Jack reported. Off the Break wall there has been a Flathead or two but the clear water has the Jewfish finicky. Bass are in good numbers up river from just around the bend from the Kempsey Bridge where some nice weed beds have formed.

On the beaches Whiting have been the fish to catch but it’s tough to find the big fat ones. On Smoky the odd big Bream has come in with good numbers of Dart in the mix. Once again the Rock Hoppers are a secretive lot so no reports available this week.
