Report 5/7/19

Post by Nicole Penfold » Tue Jul 09, 2019 4:51 pm

Estuary: Estuary fishing has been far from comfortable over the past week, however for those that have braved the less than perfect conditions the results have been fantastic. Bream are still fishing very well down the bottom of the system, both rock walls are holding big numbers of quality fish with the odd legal Snapper, Trevally and the ever present Kingfish mixed in. Now that the majority of the spawning activity is over we can expect to see the fish begin to spread back out and I have already received some very good reports of some nice Bream being caught up around Wallis Island. The same areas are also holding some nice Tailor which can be caught on the troll or by casting small metal lures about. Reports of Luderick have been very mixed this week, some anglers have reported ‘bagging out’ daily with ease while others are struggling to find any at all, the better results seem to be coming from Tuncurry break wall on the last of the run-out tide.

Beach and Rock: Beach and rock fishing has been fantastic this week. The beaches are littered with loads of nice Tailor and big Bream. Of all the beaches, 7 Mile is the most consistent however there has also been some great fish caught at the northern end of 9 Mile Beach as well as further south at Celito Beach. The bad weather that we have had for much of the week has done wonders for the rock fishing. A good amount of wash has been sitting right along the coastline and there have been loads of Black Drummer, Bream, Tailor and big Luderick about. Like always, be careful on the ledges and don’t fish alone!

Offshore: Reports from offshore have been very few and far between due to the weather this week. A few boats snuck out earlier in the week and while they did manage to scrape up a feed they reported that the sea conditions were almost impossible to fish in. The best results have actually come from in around Latitude rock which often fishes fairly good when there’s a little bit of rough weather about. The rock is holding some nice Snapper, lots of Tailor and the odd Bonito.
