29/9/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 29, 2006 8:41 am

Welcome to all our holidaymakers, let’s hope the weather is great and the fish are on the bite.
Last week most reports were a little negative with catches out of the river hard to find. Bream are there around structure like oyster leases and rock walls but they’re tough to catch in the middle of the day. Try late afternoon into the evening fishing light as possible. Flathead and whiting have been around the flats while the last of the blackfish are running, mainly being caught on cabbage weed. A couple of jewfish were caught after dark off the breakwall but the sandies and mossies are about, so remember the bug spray.
Beach and rock fishing has been fair with some red weed still on the Hat Head end of Smoky Beach, making it tough to fish. There are salmon, bream and whiting coming in off Smoky. Bream were caught off Little Bay and the rocks around the Jail.
Blue water fishos are getting a feed with good snapper around Fish Rock along with a few kingfish. Snapper and pearl perch at Grassy Head around 30 metres and out wide on the FAD there were stacks of rat kingfish around it but no mahi mahi. The odd leatherjacket is still around to create havoc with your tackle.
