Weekly Report 16 Jul 10

Good patches of weather throughout the week have seen plenty of anglers wetting a line both inshore and out wider. Quality bream continue to be the highlight at the Urangan Pier with plenty of numbers and fish up to 1.1kg being caught. Small herring are the gun bait when fished close to the pylons, with the better fish being caught early morning and night. The first channel is also producing the odd summer whiting and flathead, however there's been plague proportions of green sea toads. Off the end of the pier, expect to catch tailor, mackerel and trevally. Squid have been a bit quiet this week however its worth carrying a squid jig at all times.

Winter whiting catches are still consistant with schools of fish present south of the harbour, out the front of Gataker's Bay, Dundowran and Toogoom. Yabbies, worms and squid have been working best; with Berkley Gulp worms being a good alternative. River Heads has been producing the usual species relative to this time of year. Those fishing off the rocks have encountered bream, flathead, cod, tailor and school mackerel. Those fishing live baits and larger soft plastics have also landed the odd jew. The rocks at Gataker's have also been fishing well for bream, flathead and small trevally.

Weather permitting, some good size snapper have been caught at Wathumba. Numbers have been a bit small, however now that the snapper have spawned we should see numbers improve. A few snapper have been reported from Rooney's, with scarlets and grass sweetlip also on offer. The Gutters has seen heaps of snapper, large grass sweetlip, spangled emperor, tuskfish and the odd red emperor. For those with smaller vessels try the Arti or Burrum 8 Mile.
