Weekly Report 12 Mar 13

Post by Brad » Tue Mar 12, 2013 9:15 pm

G'day every one, rain or shine fishing is always fine. Well there has been a few Flattys caught over the last weeks they have said prawns, pillies, soft plastics, trolling hard body's and the occasional cast net when catching bait or prawns. Look for cleaner water as it will be more saltier, but try to fish in and out of the dirty water line as the bigger fish can hide and ambush its dinner. Bait is in good supply at the present moment there are schools of mullet near the bar, large schools of herring moving in towards the main land so it sounds like winter isn't too far away & neither are the Jewies, with reports of a few nice fish around 15kg from the pin also the house boat wreck near peel island and a couple local hang outs around the islands. A Jack or two have also been caught in Canaipa passage around Dunwich rock walls, close to the sticks at the pin a few nice bream in the 30 cm as well a lot of pickers though.

Whiting would be a good chance as well with the big tides first 2 hour of the run out. Muddies are still been caught but most are soft or empty, best to keep an eye on your pots as well. Legal soft crabs make excellent live bait or dead for the Blue Parrot fish that live in the bay as well. Prawns, well there has been a lot of activity on that, but with the only report of prawns was in the Pimpama at least couple of sandwiches and not much else. If we have a week without to much rain the smaller tide will be the key they should be shedding, their shell buried in the muddy sand right about now so Thursday, Friday would be the key. There also was a lot of Tailor in the pin through to Amity, most are on the small size 20 to 25 cm but still make good fun on light gear, rio slugs, laser pros and the good old pillys you just can't beat. Look for birds diving as they can indicate where bait schools may be & the Tailor or Tuna won't be far behind. I hope u can get out over the week & catch some nice quality fish, from the crew at VP bait & Tackle, Frandon, Jo & Justin.
