Weekly Report 24 Jun 13

Post by Brad » Mon Jun 24, 2013 2:46 pm

G'day every one, rain or shine fishing is always fine. Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend despite the ever changing weather conditions. The Jewfish & Snapper are the best target of the week. There has been Tailor in the Pin Bar right up to rainbow channel anywhere there is fast flowing water. It would pay to have a pilly out floating a few feet under the water. Whiting have slowed this week in numbers on the amity banks, chain banks, dialda passage but the size have made up for that, all quality fish just have to work the area but the diver whiting have been coming on strong with good catches from pelican banks, banana banks on worms, prawns, thinly sliced squid dyed in pink food colouring has been working the best.

Bream are on the chew just about everywhere on the edge of the fast flowing water, the sticks on north Straddie, Kalinga, Crusoe, short island, all the bay islands have had good reports right up to mud island. Not much on the pelagic species, inside the
bay but there has been good reports out side near Point Lookout up to Cape Moreton, Spanish mackerel, Wahoo. Garfish can still be caught in Horse Shoe Bay, Dunwich, Blakelys, they like the berley small pieces of bread. Snapper are in good numbers with reports from all over the bay. One report from cabbage tree boat ramp has had two snappers the biggest 53cm, 45cm on prawns.

This week has seen fish from all parts of the bay, artificial reefs, west peel, east Coochie, Harry's, house boat at peel, barge, right up to Tangalooma, Cowan Cowan and all the bay islands with fish to 50 cm has been the average. Two mates from our fishing club bagged out on snapper on Thursday night in Canaipa Passage bottom end of Macleay Is. Their best was 65cm. They also caught Jewfish at 17kg using a snell twin hook set up & as he went to remove the one hook the fish jumped & lodged the other9/0 hook straight in to his finger which had to be removed by the doctor on Friday morning. Ouch. Justin caught his personal best Snapper on Sunday, 60cm using fresh squid at Potts Point.

I have also been out fishing for some Jews this past week, my favourite, drifting at the Pin. Managed to land a few legal size, lost a big one & released a few as well. The average size are just under a meter with a couple at 1.15 meters I am making a GoPro DVD that I will put on Victoria Point face book soon. There has been good reports from Southport pipe line, Wallys Gutter, short, marks rocks, power lines, giants grave, salt works, Potts Point & the house boat at Peel, mud north west corner all has held good fish. As long as you have a bait or lure in the water you are half way there. I hope u can get out over the week, from the crew at Victoria Point Bait & Tackle, check out our Facebook page.
