Report 20/1/17

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jan 20, 2017 10:04 am

This past week continues to be dominated by reports of Kingfish right along our coastline. This seems to be the trend of the month with the last fortnight producing more kingfish reports than any other species. It's great to see these fish making a resurgence as they are fast becoming a viable fishing option across a number of locations along our coastline. However there is also some great bread and butter species fishing well in both our local bays. The whiting fishing has been very solid this past month with great fishing in both Westernport and Port Phillip Bay. There is also an abundance of calamari on offer along with juvenile snapper that make for great light tackle sport fishing. Lastly, stay tuned for our Blue Water Catalogue that will be released in the next week or so containing a heap of specials as well as all your game fishing needs.

Port Phillip Bay
Amelia whom has previously featured in our reports was at it again on Monday morning fishing out of Portarlington with her father. The pair were in search for some whiting for dinner. Dad reports that while the bite wasn't as good as a couple weeks ago they still managed a nice bag of whiting. Mussel was the preferred bait.

One of our customers from the shop has been getting stuck into the local snapper population fishing in 23m out of Mount Martha. If your wanting to catch some late season snapper there are still plenty about with the southern end of the bay making up for most of the reports.

Western Port
Chris O'Connell went in search of KGW on the weekend off Hastings. He was not disappointed catching some nice fish to 43cm. Chris reports that there was also some nice flathead mixed amongst his bag. We have also had good reports from a number of customers fishing the middle spit with great results using whiting snatchers and whiting whackers.
