7/7/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jul 07, 2006 12:15 pm

Most fishos were river-bound last week due to the big seas and swell but, as always, there are a few that will take it on for a feed. There have been some great snapper coming off the reefs around Grassy Head with the better ones up to 6 kilos. A few pearl perch are also making it to the cleaning tables. Towards the end of last week the charter boats had it on their own due to the conditions for heaps of leatherjackets with some monsters among them. Fish Rock has been quiet and hard to fish due to a strong current. No reports from out wide this week.
There have been a few bream, tailor, the odd salmon and surprisingly whiting on the beaches early in the week before the big seas come in.
Rockhoppers have also done it tough with a few tailor and the odd drummer and blackfish.
Blackfish are being caught in the river but not in big numbers. There are some good fish among them with the run-out tide appearing to be better. We now have a good supply of green weed so come in and have a go at these tough-fighting, great-eating fish. Bream are about with a few flathead as well. Live bait is hard to get so jew fishos are struggling to hook up.
